KINGSTON Park is the venue tomorrow night as Northumbria University and Durham University kick off the new BUCS Premier North season.

Durham have not lost a league game in over two years under director of rugby Alex Keay, and were beaten Twickenham finalists in last season’s BUCS Cup where they met Hartpury College.

Tomorrow’s opening league programme has Newcastle University at Leeds Metropolitan, while the Wednesday after sees Cochrane Park playing host to the city derby between Newcastle and Northumbria.

Division 4B is where both Sunderland and Teesside universities will play this season, with Sunderland on the road tomorrow against York University 3rd XV. Teesside get under way the week after at Sunderland.

The women’s BUCS Premier North also kicks off tomorrow, with Durham travelling to the University of Birmingham. Newcastle University, last season’s BUCS trophy finalists, must wait until the Wednesday after to kick-off their campaign when Loughborough are their visitors.

At schools level, too, the action is hotting up with the Daily Mail Under-18s Cup second round taking place tomorrow.

Durham School travel to Hartlepool Sixth Form College, Dame Allan’s host Duchess’s Community High School, Emmanuel College welcome RGS Newcastle, Barnard Castle visit Macmillan Academy and Gateshead College welcome East Durham College.

At under-15s level the competition is also at the second-round stage, with Barnard Castle v Yarm among the top ties as Duchess’s Community High School are at home to King’s Tynemouth and RGS Newcastle travel to King Edward VI Morpeth.

Meanwhile, the selection process for the England Under-16s squad gets under way later this month when Northumberland, Durham and Cumbria join forces to field a team in a series of inter-county matches.

Sunday October 28 at Sedbergh School is the first of the three scheduled festivals, with the combined side taking on Cheshire.

Further events at Woodhouse Grove School and Durham School follow, with scheduled matches against Yorkshire and Lancashire respectively before the divisional development sessions on December 8-9.
