WHITLEY Warriors took the honours once again as the North East derby kept spectators warm despite freezing temperatures outside.

The home side were quick off the mark with Adam Reynolds netting at 3.43 and Karl Culley got a second. Northern Stars pulled one back with a powerplay goal from Martyn Davies at 8.52, but Culley soon replied. James McCabe netted for the visitors before Whitley Warriors went 4-2 ahead at 25.32 through England Under-16 captain Andrew Cook. The home side then had a flourish as Andrew Thornton and Paul Windridge produced smart finishes. Warriors scored the final goal when Callum Watson netted three minutes from time.

WHITLEY SCORERS: Culley 2+2, Reynolds 1+2, Windridge, Watson, Cook, A Thornton 1+0, Good, Kippin 0+2, Brummitt and Robinson 0+1.

NORTHERN STARS: McCabe 1+1, M Davies 1+0, Hehir 0+1.
