Pre-season training will have a familiar feel at Newcastle Eagles after Scott Martin became the latest player to rejoin for 2014-15.

With the remaining places in Fabulous Flournoy’s squad expected to be filled by long-serving Charles Smith and Darius Defoe, he should only have to teach his methods to two players when the Eagles reassemble next month.

Managing director Paul Blake highlighted that as one of the most pleasing aspects of forward Martin returning after an impressive maiden season on Tyneside.

“Scott gives us the added bonus of maintaining a continuity within the roster which is something Fab likes and what we have based a lot of our success on,” he said.

The 26-year-old forward left Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish last summer after two serious knee injuries but adapted well to his new surroundings, averaging 14.9 points and 9.2 rebounds for Newcastle.

“When we signed Scott last season we knew he had the potential to be a 15 and 10 guy and he didn’t let us down,” said Blake.

Ricky Taylor and Rahmon Fletcher will make their British basketball debuts on September 26 having spent last term on the Continent, while Drew Lasker has signed a new contract, and forward Andy Thomson has rejoined after three years away.
