Fabulous Flournoy has challenged his Newcastle Eagles to overcome their BBL Cup disappointment and bounce back stronger.

The Eagles lost the cup final in the closing stages against Leicester Riders at the Birmingham NIA last Sunday.

Fourth in the table, they return to Championship action with a home game against mid-table Cheshire Phoenix tonight (7.30pm) before Sunday’s BBL Trophy trip to Essex Leopards (4pm).

Player-coach Flournoy said: “It was extremely tough to lose last weekend.

“However, we have to get over it and move on as best we can.

“For most of the game, 35 minutes or so, we executed our gameplan. We did everything we needed to do.

“For the last five minutes, we failed to do that and it got away from us.

“However, this is just another learning curve for this team, and we have to make up for it and give ourselves another opportunity to do so.

“We played well, we had the game.

“This is such a young team in terms of being in that scenario and it just wasn’t to be.

“We can’t let that dishearten us or break us apart. We have to use defeat to pull us together.

“We have a Championship game, there’ll be a lot more of them coming up. There’s the Trophy on Sunday, and hopefully the play-offs to come.

“There’s a lot left for us to achieve.”
