Newcastle Diamonds travel to South Tees Motor Park tonight, hoping to continue their good run of away Premier League performances.
Missing from the Diamonds septet taking on Redcar Bears in the 7.30pm start will be Australian Christian Henry, who broke two vertebrae in a crash at Leicester a fortnight ago. So, the Diamonds will operate the rider replacement rule whereby other team members can cover Christian’s programmed rides.
Newcastle have an impressive top four to fill those spaces in the form of skipper Stuart Robson, Andrew Tully, Ludvig Lindgren and the colourful Richie Worrall (pictured above) , who is not exactly a fans’ favourite at the Motorpark.
To add spice to the match, GB international squad member Richie will face his twin brother Steve in opposition tonight as he has been signed by the Bears as a temporary replacement for Max Dilger, who is recovering from an operation on a broken wrist.
Newcastle’s George English said: “As ever, this is seen as one of our biggest away league dates of the season, as we always go to Teesside with the aim to win well.
“Christian is, of course, out of action, but I think our coverage should be strong enough to make good his points. But with their recent acquisition of Steve Worrall, Richie’s twin, it could be a very interesting night of speedway indeed.
“When riders, for whatever reason, change tracks – even temporarily – there’s a trend in this sport for the original club to end up getting its bum bitten. And when Richie stood down from ourselves, we wished him all the best and hoped his points scoring would recover soon.
“Yes, we mean that, but not tomorrow if you please, Steve!
“We need as many league points as possible and can promise our local rivals we mean to make sure of getting them.”
