MARK BOYD has been around the block in his footballing career – and the journeyman midfielder bent in a free-kick which helped dump leaders Ponteland United.
Boyd – known by his nickname Skip – began his career at Newcastle United and has played for Carlisle United, Gretna, Barrow and Irish outfit Sligo Rovers.
On Saturday he appeared for home-town side Harraby CC as the 3-1 scoreline consigned United to their fifth defeat in the Northern Alliance Premier Division and handed the title initiative to rivals Alnwick Town.
Alnwick claimed the points at Percy Main Amateurs courtesy of Scott McMullen’s late free-kick.
They are now a point adrift of Ponteland with a game in hand.
