A brand new amateur golfing event will launch this August, which takes advantage of the spectacular landscapes and tranquility of the Northumberland countryside and coast.
The Northumberland 3-Day Event spends a day each at three excellent regional 18-hole golf courses - Rothbury, Bellingham and Alnwick - all set in picturesque surroundings and close to interesting family amenities and delightful market towns.
Rothbury GC is a new, 18-hole course with contrasting but complimentary front and back nines and a spacious new clubhouse.
Situated in the Coquetdale at the gateway to Northumberland National Park, it has spectacular views across the valley to the Cheviot Hills and Simonside, where the heather will be blooming during the event.
The imposing National Trust estate of Cragside is nearby.
Rothbury Golf Club is taking being green very seriously, and is working with the National Park to encourage native wildflowers and wildlife in the ponds and rough on the course.
Bellingham GC is a highly-regarded course in the beautiful North Tyne Valley, a gateway to the National Park, with stunning views towards Kielder Water and Forest leisure park.
The variety of golf holes offered and balance of design would not be out of place at one of the celebrated golfing locations.
The 18th is a memorable finish with two ravines to negotiate with the second shot.
The pretty old town of Bellingham boasts a fascinating Heritage Centre and a wonderful walk up the wooded ravine of Hareshaw Linn with a great waterfall at the end.
Alnwick GC is one of the best mature parkland courses in Northumberland. Situated in a landscape designed by Capability Brown with magnificent views of the sea, it celebrates its centenary this year.
The club is located on the edge of the historic walled town of Alnwick with the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland's fairytale castle and famous gardens nearby, and is just five miles from the stunning wild sandy beaches of the Northumberland coast.
Players can expect a friendly welcome, wonderful views and fine hospitality at all the clubhouses, which are within an hour's drive of each other. There is a wealth of good local accommodation at each market town.
The Northumberland 3-Day Event offers an enjoyable and interesting challenge to golfers with a range of activities for families at nearby countryside and coast. A handicap certificate will be required for each player with everyone receiving an allowance of _, and teams can be two gentlemen, two ladies or a combination.
It is reasonably priced at £60 per pair for 3 days or £25 per pair for a single day, and there are daily and tournament prizes with the Northumberland National Park Trophy for the winners.
The cosing date for entries is August 1 and for more details and bookings contact Anne Brown at Rothbury Golf Club on 0191-215-0268 or send an email to: marketing@rothburygolfclubcom
