THE quality of both the golf courses and the Edwardian hotel that comprise the De Vere Slaley Hall resort has been widely acknowledged in the 2008 Golf Monthly rankings of the top-50 places to 'Stay and Play' in the UK and Ireland. The stunning Northumberland resort received the best rating of any resort in the North of England to combine top quality golf with a luxury hotel, and was voted as the 6th best resort in the whole of England.
In the overall poll, voted for by a panel comprising Golf Monthly editors, readers and the chief executive of golfbreaks.com, Slaley Hall was ranked 20th in the whole of the UK and Ireland - against some incredible competition.
At the heart of the Slaley Hall resort are the Hunting and Priestman championship golf courses, which have played host to a number of prestigious tournaments in the past.
The return of high profile professional tournament golf in August, when the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship was staged over the Hunting course, is testament to the immaculate condition and the great test presented by the Dave Thomas design.
The Edwardian mansion, which recently went through a significant refurbishment programme throughout the hotel, offers stylish and elegant bedrooms and overlooks the two championship courses.
Keith Pickard, Golf Director at Slaley Hall, commented: "De Vere is passionate about achieving the highest standards with our golf courses and luxury hotels, and this latest poll from Golf Monthly confirms that we are achieving some of the highest standards in the UK and Ireland.
"With so many venues to chose from, it is great to see Slaley Hall voted as the number one venue in England anywhere from the Midlands upwards; nevertheless we are always looking to enhance the services and experiences available to our guests, with the recent investment put into the resort being evidence of this.
"So we will be looking to improve on this rating next time around."
The Golf Monthly top 50 'Stay and Play' rankings concluded that three De Vere resorts were the best venues in the North of England.
While Slaley Hall took the No 1 spot, Carden Park in Cheshire and Oulton Hall in Yorkshire were ranked No 2 and No 3, and No 30 and No 39 in the overall poll respectively.
The top ranked De Vere resort was Cameron House on Loch Lomond with its newly completed adjoining course, The Carrick, which was the newest venue to feature in the Top 50 and the fourth highest in Scotland, which was placed 13th overall.
