A MIXED Open event in North Yorkshire attracted pairs from Scotland, the West Midlands and even Kent.

A MIXED Open event in North Yorkshire attracted pairs from Scotland, the West Midlands and even Kent. Romanby Golf and Country Club's Mixed Open was run by Ann Phillips of the host club and her partner Tony Thompson from Thirsk & Northallerton.

Played in very tricky and testing conditions with the wind, Ann and Tony scored a magnificent 41 points.

Romanby's marketing manager Richard Boucher said: "It's great to have such a large field competing in this event. To have them come from so far a field is a real reflection on how well thought of the course is around not only the North East but nationally as well."

Special thanks go to Romanby members junior captain Adam Robinson and Keith Illingworth for their help as starters and Marjorie Durrent and Dorothy Edwards for scoring.

Results: Mixed Open Greensome: 1st, Ann Phillips (Romanby) & Tony Thompson (T&N) 41 points; 2nd, Richard & Julie Noble (Bedale) 40 points (18 points back 9); 3rd, Graham & Debbie Noble (Saltburn) 40 points (17 points back 9); 4th, Jim & Carol Shaw (Bedale) 39 points; 5th, Bill & Mary Grainger (Hartlepool) 38 points.

The club still has places available for the remaining three Opens in August - 17th Mens, 19th Seniors and 21st Ladies. Contact the club on 01609 778855 ext 223 for more details.
