RYDER Cup winner and seven-time European Tour winner Ronan Rafferty has joined forces with the Roxburghe club to promote and raise the profile of the course near Kelso, in the Scottish Borders.
Designed by Newcastle-born Dave Thomas, the Roxburghe was opened in 1997 and is one of the top inland courses in the country.
Rafferty said: “It is a privilege for me to be working closely with the Duke of Roxburghe and his team and to be able to take the Roxburghe course to the next level of excellence.
“This is an exciting time to be involved with the course and the Roxburghe Estate with a development plan which should transform the Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course into the only five-star resort in the region.”
Rafferty will provide support and considerable expertise to reinforce the club’s position as a world-class golf centre of excellence, with a golf academy providing the best teaching facility in the Scottish Borders.
Other areas of involvement will be the development of a social responsibility programme with the Roxburghe youth programme, junior golf camps, as well as the building of strong relationships with the European and Senior tours.
“This is a really exciting stage in the creation of a world-class resort destination in the Scottish Borders, and the experience and skills of Ronan Rafferty will be key to bringing about the successful expansion at The Roxburghe,” said the Duke.
