WYNYARD Golf Club has been crowned champions of the annual Teesside Union Three-Man tournament.
The team – Greg Johnson, Ben Renfrew and Robert Moon – put on an impressive performance to become the first third division team to win the title.
The trio, who are all recent new members of Wynyard, play with handicaps of 2, 0 and 0 respectively. They won the tournament with rounds of 72-73, 72-76 and 74-75.
Chris Mounter, director of golf at Wynyard, said: “It is great news for the team as well as the club, especially as all the other teams play in higher divisions.
“All three players put in a brilliant performance and thoroughly deserve the trophy.”

A golf-trip-of-a-lifetime to the Bahamas awaits amateur Mike North and his Ingleby Barwick PGA professional Tim Jenkins if they can come through the regional final of Europe’s biggest pro-am competition, the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship supported by SkyCaddie.
North, a 20-handicaper from Stockton, took his first big step towards a luxury six-day all inclusive trip to the island of Grand Exuma between November 23-28, when he won his club qualifying competition with a score of 38 points.
He and Jenkins now advance to Fulford Golf Club, one of 16 regional finals, where they will play one round of better-ball medal play. The winning professional in the regional final receives £500, and there are valuable prizes for the top amateurs.
The winners at each regional final throughout Great Britain and Ireland will secure their place on board a Virgin Atlantic jet for the exotic trip and the chance to compete in the Grand Final held on the Greg Norman-designed course at Emerald Reef Golf Club, part of the Sandals Emerald Bay Resort, which boasts the only “all butler” service in the Bahamas.
