Durham County Golf Union celebrate their centenary year in 2008 - and will mark the occasion with two special competitions.

The first will be held at The Wynyard Golf Club on Sunday, June 22 and will feature two separate tournaments.

The first on the morning is a competition for clubs who will be asked to send two representatives to play in a shotgun start event. The second on the afternoon, which will again feature a shotgun start, will be for the county and invited guests.

The second tournament will be held on Sunday, September 28 at Durham City Golf Club. This competition will be open to all club members in Durham.

Each club in Durham has been asked to hold a qualifying competition from which the winner from each club will qualify to play in the final at Durham City.

This competition will be the finale to the 2008 playing season.

The winners of the Durham City and The Wynyard competitions will be invited to the county dinner in December where they will be presented with their prizes.

Meanwhile, Peter Durno has been elected to a second year in office as president of the Durham County Golf Union at the AGM staged at the Ramside Hall Hotel near Durham City.
