As an object lesson to slow club golfers everywhere, it is worth recording the 19 holes taken for the matchplay final of the Northumberland and Durham Inter County Foursomes were completed in two hours and 35 minutes at Morpeth on Saturday. Northumberland president Brian Aisbitt said: "This was partly because one of the Prudhoe players, James Curry, was waiting down the fairway when it was his partner's turn to tee off. This meant he was not only ready to play the second shot but also able to spot where the ball went after it left the tee. Some club players can take as long as four hours to play 18 holes of foursomes!"
HOUGHTON-LE-SPRING and Garesfield have registered for EGU grants which enables clubs to provide free coaching for their junior members.
DE VERE Oulton Hall in Leeds was the five-star venue - blessed with immaculate greens - for an unusual challenge match between the Europro Tour professionals and the golf media. The media and the pros were pitched head to head, with the media allowed full handicap even though it was matchplay. The pros won 32-6 (19 matches, 2 points for a win, one for a half). Two of the pros lost, one of them to a Trinity Mirror hero, Richard Williams of the Liverpool Daily Post.
