Club’s effort raises plenty of greens

THE members of Morpeth Golf Club raised money throughout last year for their chosen charity, St Oswald’s Hospice.

Club captain, Peter Wilson and lady’s captain, Sylvia Proudlock, recently presented a cheque for £2,575 to Jayne Crow, St Oswald’s Community Fundraiser for Northumberland.

Peter said: “In previous years the club captain and the lady captain have chosen different charities. This year, however, we decided to raise money for St Oswald’s together because we both have personal ties with the hospice and thought it would help us raise even more money for such a wonderful place.”

Their fundraising efforts throughout 2009 have seen funds from coffee mornings, raffles, dances, and visits all go towards the fabulous total. The donation will greatly benefit the hospice’s Inpatients Ward.

Peter added: “We have had so much fun this year raising money for St Oswald’s; everyone enjoyed getting involved. Seeing the amount that we have raised fills us with so much pride. We are glad to be able to support such a worthwhile local cause.”

Jayne Crow, community fundraiser, said: We are hugely grateful to Morpeth Golf Club for choosing to support St Oswald’s. Our annual running costs now exceed £8m, of which £6m must be raised through voluntary giving, therefore fundraising such as this is vital to us. Without our supporters’ help we could not continue to provide our specialist care to adults and children from the region.”

St Oswald’s provides specialist care free of charge, ensuring their services are available to anyone who should need them.
