HAVING been appointed as the PGA professional at Hexham Golf Club in November last year, Andy Paisley has proved to be an excellent choice for the Northumberland club.

Assisted by Stocksfield's Chris McDonnell and Hexham's Philip Waugh, Andy's easygoing and friendly attitude has been enthusiastically accepted by the membership. The well stocked shop is more than just ticking over; a good sign that present times are not all doom and gloom and his ability to coach is being recognised by golfers from all over the region.

He remarked: "Things are going really well here at Hexham and we have been very busy. The members are supporting me so I am just trying to provide the best service that I can and in addition, I'm doing a lot of teaching. A lot of people who have had lessons off me in the past are coming here so basically it's a lot busier than I thought it would be."

Most golfers are beginning to realise that whilst buying a set of golf clubs discounted off the shelf or from the Internet might be a good idea at the time, you can seriously damage your golf game if they are not set up correctly.

Andy is a firm believer that custom fitting is essential for a good golf game and explained: "There are not many places around this area that customise clubs and I firmly believe that I can provide a much better service than most ensuring that people get the perfect set of clubs for them, making sure they are getting clubs that really improve their golf.

"A lot of members of local clubs are now coming here for custom fitting and also they are coming here with their existing clubs to see if they need adjusting - a lot of golfers are using clubs that they don't know if they are right for them in the first place.

"I've got all the facilities to do this, a Vector launch monitor which tells you everything you need to know about your ball flight and that helps me to fit people into the right clubs. I can adjust clubs with the loft and line machine that I've got and also the video system allows you to see the swing in a lot of detail."

Andy also has a full repair facility, especially for those golfers who suffer from the occasional fit of bad temper!!

Hexham Golf Club appears to be really thriving at the minute. Andy added: "The membership is full and we are getting lots of visitors. And I believe we have created a welcoming atmosphere in the shop - people can enjoy themselves when they come in and see what we have to offer."
