A hollow ring to advice

DINSDALE played host to the regional meeting of the North Yorkshire and South Durham Golf Club Managers’ Association.

At the meeting, members of the association listened to guest speakers specifically selected to assist secretaries in their difficult role.

Of particular interest was Henry Bechelet, from STRI, who explained the reasons why clubs should hollow core greens, and that the best time to do this was while the growing season is still high in August and September.

This provides a good platform for the greens to recover quickly and allows proper greens to be used in the winter as opposed to temporary winter greens.

Following the meeting, a competition, sponsored by Eagle Promotions, was played and the winners were (trophy and sponsors prize): Paul Davison; runner-up, Mark Etherington; third: Eddie Douglas
