There were some excellent performances as North of England record holder Niall Flannery of Northumberland won the intermediate 400m hurdles and later the 100m hurdles. Rebecca Liddell of Northumberland had an easy victory in the junior girls 75m hurdles while Katy Jenkinson of Cumbria was too strong for Laura Welsh of Durham in the intermediate 80m hurdles.
Matthew Davison easily won the intermediate 100m and English Schools cross country intermediate champion Ross Murray of Northumberland clocked the fastest time in the 800m.
Northern silver medallist Chloe Gill of Durham reversed places with Northern champion Emma Pringle of Northumberland to win the intermediate triple jump. Pringle also won the shot and Nicola Pearson of Durham just held off Katy Hunton of Cumbria in the intermediate girls 300m.
Tim Parkin of Northumberland cleared four metres for the first time to win the intermediate pole vault while, in the non-scoring senior events, Sam Coe of Cumbria won the hammer and Stacey Smith of Northumberland the 1500m
Terry Wall of Morpeth won yesterday's Aycliffe 10km road race for the fifth successive year.
He pulled away from nearest rival Ricky Wilson of Scarborough after the first of the three laps. Louise Noble of Sunderland, second in 2006, won the women's race from Nicola Geddes of Scunthorpe finishing 10th overall in the 280-strong field.
