WHITLEY Warriors took themselves to within a win of retaining the English National League title with victory in Blackburn last night.
The visitors who were off the mark quickest when Adam Robinson scored in the third minute, but the Hawks drew level via Sam Dunford at 4.58.
Each side then scored again as Matthew Rich put Whitley back in front at 9.32, only to see Chris Arnone cancel that out with a goal three minutes later. However, DJ Good added a powerplay goal in the 15th minute and two minutes later Whitley skipper Adam Reynolds made it 4-2.
Blackburn could do nothing to prevent the Warriors from extending their lead when Reynolds grabbed his second at 31.39. Ritchie Thornton made it 6-2 for Whitley on 49 minutes, although the home side did pull one back via Arnone with five minutes left.
