ASHINGTON'S disappointing start to the season in the STL Northern League First Division continued when a strong second- half performance earned Bedlington Terriers a 4-1 win in the derby at Woodhorn Lane.

Despite scoring after only three minutes through James Harmison and having the better of the opening half hour, the Colliers were second-best for most of the game.

In-form Anthony Shandran was again Bedlington's star. After plundering six goals on Saturday, he rifled another hat-trick with Ian Graham adding to the woes of Ashington, who have taken just two points from a possible 15.

Sunderland RCA moved to the top of the league when they twice came from behind to defeat South Shields 3-2 at the Filtrona Stadium.

Alex Benjamin and Tony Burnell struck for the Mariners with hat-trick hero Mark Davison RCA's match-winner.

Stokesley SC breathed a huge sigh of relief at the final whistle.

After conceding 32 goals in four games, including 15 at Bedlington Terriers on Saturday – they held Norton and Stockton Ancients to a goalless draw.
