The 25th running of Elswick Harriers' Newburn River Run (approx 6½ mile), is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21 with a 7.30pm start.

The start and finish of this popular event is at Newburn Leisure Centre and the race has a limit of 350 which has nearly been reached.

Closing date for entries is Saturday, or when the maximum has been received, and they should be sent, together with entry fee, to Mr F Watson, 224 Newburn Road, Throckley, Newcastle NE15 9AE. Tel (0191) 267 3088.

The third fixture of the Start Fitness-supported North Eastern Athletics League, will take place at Monkton Stadium on Wednesday, June 21.

The meeting starts at 7pm and included in the programme is the North East Counties 4x100m relays for under-13 boys and girls. Entries for all events, including the relays, will be taken on the night.

Sunderland Harriers stage the 16th running of the Penshaw Hill Race on Wednesday, June 21 with a 7.15pm start.

The Beamish Tram Challenge is scheduled for Sunday, June 25 with a 9.30am start.

The 10km event will have a slightly different course to last year, but the first athlete to beat the tram will still receive a trophy.

Tynedale Harriers' 10km Road Race, once again sponsored by Patterson Motor Group, takes place on Wednesday, July 5 with a 7.30pm start.

The closing date for entries is June 26 and late entries cannot be guaranteed as there is a race limit.

Alnwick Harriers' Beadnell to Alnmouth Coastal Run - approx 14 miles - takes place on Sunday, July 9 with a 10.30am start.

Competitors choose their own route from Beadnell Harbour to the Alnmouth Estuary keeping as close to the coast as possible.

There is a maximum of 1,000 entries - no late entries and none on the day - which should be sent to Mrs Anne Allan, The Northumberland Coastal Run, PO Box 187, Morpeth NE65 9WW by July 1.

Low Fell Running Club's Angel View Run - approx five miles - takes place on Thursday, July 13 with a 7.15pm start.
