ASHINGTON’S Dave Pearson has been selected as a referee for this year’s Rugby World Cup.

The 44-year-old former Seghill player was a touch-judge in the 2007 tournament, but has been promoted to the 10-man panel of referees for the international showpiece this time round.

Pearson will learn in August which group games he is to officiate in, with a performance review after the pool stage set to decide who will take charge for the knock-out stages.
