Two monster cods are taken at Marsden Rocks

ANOTHER two monster cod have been taken. Johnny Loftus finished the year off in style fishing at Marden Rocks with a personal best cod of 15lb 8oz – days after friend John Gilbertson landed one of 10lb.

Sean Hildrew, fishing at Dean Mans Bank, Blackhall, started the year in style with a personal best and the week’s biggest cod of 16lb 14oz.

After getting a good fish stuck, Chris Hopkins eventually freed the fish and landed a cod of 11lb 12oz from Craster.

Johnny Brooks, fishing South Shields pier, took one of 11lb 11oz.

Dave Greatrex and Greg Humphrey had a good session at Hadston, Greatrex taking four for 12lb and Humphrey eight for 20lb.

Nice fish were taken in the Ship Inn, Mick Heslop winning with three cod for 12lb 1oz and the heaviest at 9lb, taken from the Warriors.

Gary Pye won Easington Welfare’s open with a cod of 9lb 1oz and heaviest bag with 15lb 5oz 10drams.

Personal-best fish over the last week have gone to Ivan Stott with one of 8lb 8oz taken from Craster, John Hepton one of 7lb 4oz in a personal best bag of three for 12lb 8oz from Seaham pier and Michael Vincent with one of 6lb 8oz from Ryhope Cliff.

Other good catches were taken by Tommy Tate, who took cod of 4lb, 5lb, 6lb and 7lb and Carl Johnson one of 6lb all from Whitburn. Ian McLaughlin took one of 7lb from the Target, Gordon Scott two cod, best 7.5lb from Craster and Mitch Dow two, the best 6lb 4oz from St Mary’s.

Club matches have produced good results.

Graham Sidney won Bedlington Station’s match with nine fish for 15lb 10oz.

Billy Foster took Newbiggin’s match with four cod for 17lb 15.8oz, followed by Graham Foster with three for 13lb 8.8oz both fishing Bog Hall.

Jamie Davison had the best of 9lb 7.8oz from Cambois.

Ian Greenacre fished at Amble to win Blyth’s match with five cod for 17lb 4oz 12drams, best 7lb 3oz 2drams.

A codling of 6lb 15oz from Crawleys by Gary Wilson won South Beach residents’ Xmas Faye. Kenny Patterson fished Whitley Beach to win Tynemouth’s match with two cod for 10lb 3oz 8drams, best 8lb 7oz 15drams.

Andrew Taylor took a mixed bag of codling, whiting, and flounder to win Amble’s match with a haul weighing in at 10lb 3¼oz.
