Boat fishing has certainly picked up, especially now that mackerel are showing from all ports, some boats taking as many as 40 mackerel a trip.

With fresh mackerel, boats have started picking up some of the better ling with fish now into double figures coming from wrecks in catches of up to 50 fish with cod to 9lb present.

This year's Fraser's Heaviest Fish Boat competition is on June 24. Reg, Royal Quays 8am or beforehand at Rutherfords Angling, Sunderland, or Amble Angling Supplies. Fish 10am-4pm. Weigh in 4-6pm. Entry £7 all classes - a donation will be made to the RNLI from the entry monies. Open to all boats. Competitors must arrange own boat place.
