The unseasonable conditions have brought quite a few codling ashore with anglers who have been targeting them, even during daylight taking three or four codling to around 3lb to fresh crab baits.
Most anglers, however, have still been targeting the shoals of mackerel being taken from the region's piers, that is when the conditions have been calm enough.
Match anglers are still having good sport with flounders and eels in the region's rivers, with quite a few well over 2lb.
Whiting, coalfish and a few codling have also been taken, mainly from the estuaries, with South Shields pier the best venue for mixed bags of over 10lb.
The rock marks from Amble to St Abbs, which had been hit by the rough conditions, are now giving up a few decent cod to 5lb now the sea has calmed, along with some decent wrasse and Pollock.
Boats, when they have been able to get out, have taken reasonable numbers of cod to well over double figures and ling to over 20lb from the wrecks and good numbers of cod to 7lb from the rough ground.
The poor weather has even hit the shelter of Luce Bay where the tope fishing has gone right off, but boats keeping close to the rocky marks have taken good numbers of Pollock to 7lb.
