Tyne Rivers Trust and the Angling Trust, with support from Haltwhistle AC and Defra, hold a free River Day at Featherstone Castle on Sunday.
There will be an introduction to casting and fishing, a fun casting competition for children and an opportunity to play with a river simulator among many attractions.
At Chatton Davie Parker, Wallsend, had 14 including a doubler, C Davison, Stannington, one of 17lb, Charlie Armstrong, Alnwick, a 12lb rainbow and Matty Divine, Hadston, had 18, including a 10lb 3oz brown. Julian Bales, Wooler, caught 12, Ken Glenton, Ashington, 13, Danny Lansdell, Newcastle, kept one returned 15. Boat angler Benjamine Dully landed the season’s biggest fish, 6lb 8oz, at Kielder. Danny Eden had a limit-bag for at 16lb 3oz at Matthews Linn where Oliver Black landed seven for 13lb 9oz. At Lockwood Beck 141 anglers landed 607 rainbows to 14lb 7oz for a rod average 4.3 with 136 fish kept at an average 2lb 6oz. On Saturday July 13, 10am, Steve Naylor of the British Float Tube Association (BFTA) demonstrates float tubing equipment. The BFTA hold an inaugural competition at Lockwood Beck on July 20. Best fish of the week at Caistron Lakes was an 8lb 8oz rainbow by Neil Arkley, Seaham, who had another 14, Bill King, had 20; Keith and M Bell had 36 between them and Jeff McDonald 23. The fishery hosts an event in aid of the Bobby Robson Foundation for Cancer Research, 10am-4pm Sunday.
Garry Wilson had best fish of the week at Witton Castle Lakes – a superb 9lb blue. Junior angler Jack Pollard landed six, including a 4lb brown. Friday’s all-night fishing event saw 38 anglers land 125. At South Linden fly lake most brought trout to the net. G Maddison of Bedlington, G Lumsden of Amble, J Kelly of Amble - who landed an 18lb rainbow after only three casts – caught and released 10, Ray Bartlett of Stakeford and Chris Ashurst of Dudley caught and released nine. The bait lake stays closed until water levels improve.
Twenty-five fished the Gilliam Mort Memorial Trophy competition at Knitsley Mill, raising £340 for Willowburn Hospice. Ian Wynn had heaviest two-fish bag to win. The monthly competition is on Saturday, 8.30am start. The fishery hosts the Gey’s team qualifier on August 10. Details on 07969 747417.
Gerry and Irene McKeever landed 10 rainbows for 19lb at Fontburn where R and L Jones took three rainbows and nine blues for 22lb, Carol Dodd landed six rainbows and a blue for 16lb 13oz. Carol’s husband Alan caught and released 38. Barry Wilson recorded two limit catches of 17lb 12oz and 18lb in a day. At Naworth R Rowley had 24 to 9lb on fly and D Taylor a nice rainbow of 17lb on fly. At Derwent Reservoir on Saturday M Latty catching a fish of 8lb.
