A ‘monster’ at Tynemouth Karl McLauchlin will remember

WHAT a night it was for Karl McLauchlin. After fishing Slatey Gut at Tynemouth, he decided on a move which proved extremely rewarding.

After taking four codling to 3lb, Karl hooked into a veritable monster which left him with aching arms. After getting the fish ashore, when weighed it not only proved to be the fish of the week by a mile, but was also a personal best, weighing 17lb 8oz.

Another youngster into a personal best was Callum Stevens, who took a best cod of 11lb 8oz 10drams from Slatey Gut in Tynemouth’s match, which was won by Marty Elliott with three cod for 15lb 1oz, the best 6lb 1oz, from Barge Bottom.

Billy Foster fished at Bog Hall to win Newbiggin’s match with a nice bag of nine cod for 25lb 9oz, the best 5lb 10oz. Gav Lockey fished at Hauxley to win Amble’s match with four cod for 15lb 13oz, the best 5lb 5oz.

Hauxley produced the top bags in Blyth’s match, Dave Carrs taking five cod for 14lb 1oz 8drams, T Barton taking the best at 8lb 3oz, and guest Chris Hopkins taking six for 13lb 11oz.

Hendon prom also produced. Paul Richardson won Ryhope’s match with one of 6lb 10oz. At Roker pier, Trevor Green and a friend took a dozen to 5lb. At Marsden Beach, Steve Riddell took three for 11lb, the best 4lb 13oz, in Cleadon’s match. Steve Davis took cod to 8lb from Sugar Sands, Micky Adams a cod of 7lb 10oz, and Aaron Stead and John Cousins fish to over 5lb from Marsden. Eddie Turnbull took four cod from Whitburn, Dean Turnbull took a cod of 5lb 8oz from Seaham Spiles, Alan Robinson took three cod to 5lb from Lynemouth, Mickey Mouat took cod of 6lb 8oz from North Arm, and Liam Simpson three cod for 9lb, the best 5lb from Hendon prom. David Thynne took a dogfish of around 3lb from the Glass Centre.

Mixed bags of whiting, codling, coalfish, and flatfish have been taken. Darren Browne took 35 for 20lb from Roker pier. Mick Dellin took a cod of 4lb 10oz from the Tyne in Alberta’s match. Bill Bradley took 30 for 21lb 2oz in Hartlepool Pirates’ match. Boat catches have been surprisingly good. When they got out, six anglers aboard Sarah JFK took around 30.

Paul Longstaff took cod and ling to 12lb, Jimmy Cassidy cod to 13lb, topped by George Richardson, who also took fish of 10lb & 12lb, who took a ling of 16lb 8oz.

Anglers on Sapphire on an evening trip (bookings 07854 819 924) were into fish as darkness fell, taking two dozen fish to 5lb on a variety of baits.
