VERY nice cod and ling have come from the boats. Best cod was taken aboard Sunderland boat Sapphire by David Woods on mackerel baited hokkais, it weighed 22lb, Woods had other cod over 10lb and ling to 8lb.

A short evening trip produced a ling of 18lb for Michael Newton along with cod to 10lb. After a few great catches aboard JFK you might think it couldn’t get any better – well it did, with two monster ling, Ken Horne taking one of 28.5lb, beaten by Paul Davison’s 30lb ling, the catch included other ling to 19lb, coalfish to 8lb and cod to 15lb.

Kayak anglers have again done well, Ian Wiles and friend Jeff were enjoying a dolphin display off Tynemouth when Wiles’ rod bent double – it was a personal best cod of 14lb 15oz.

Colin Setterfield has taken the lead in the North Star competition, fishing out of Hartlepool. He took a ling of 15lb 6oz on the first drift, the party also took good numbers of cod.

Amble boat Serenity fishing the hard ground took good numbers of cod to 8lb, ling to 9lb, along with wrasse, coalfish and scotch haddock. The rocky open shore is a bit off the boil. Alnmouth produced all the fish in Blyth’s match Mick Hardy, three for 3lb 9oz, John Herron the heaviest at 3lb 3oz.

Nice plaice have come from Roker, Tynemouth and South Shields piers Alan Ramsey taking one of 2lb 3oz from Roker to win Sunderland’s match, Alan Mitchison one of 1lb 12oz the heaviest fish in Tynemouth’s pier match.

The Wear producing very big eels, Sharon Stanlick was a clear winner in Ryhope’s sweep with one of 2lb 2oz.

A self drive Norway boat trip by Paul Skea, Keith Olley, Chris Ryan, Shaun Richardson and Gary Bryant was a huge success with some great catches.
