Hartlepool-based boat “Evelyn Jane” took several ling over 20lb, topped by a cracker of 29lb 10oz taken by D Keswick.

The second biggest ling was taken by Ian Blair, fishing aboard Tyne boat “Sarah JFK” who also took pollock to 9lb.

Shore anglers have done well. Ivan Stott won Seaton Sluice’s match with six codling for 18lb 7oz, best 4lb 4oz from Newbiggin, followed by Gary Appleton with five codling for 8lb 11oz.

Alan Naisby, also fishing Newbiggin, had two codling for 10lb 3oz, best 8lb2 ½oz to win Seaton Sluice’s match, followed by Steve Surtees with eight fish for 9lb 6oz. At Sharpness point, Dave Hayley won Tynemouth’s match with two coalfish and a codling for 5lb 14oz. Junior angler Shaun Brennan took a personal best codling of 5lb 14oz.

At Lower Tyne, Steve Williams won Cleadon’s match with seven codling for 8lb 13oz. Robert Lees won South Shields match with six fish for 6lb 1oz.

There have been some cracking flounders taken from the Wear. In Sunderland’s match Alan Walker took one of 2lb 6oz, and Robbie Feenan one of 2lb 1oz, however the match was won by Phil Wright with a codling of 5lb 11oz.

Eastenders have had two matches Ritchie Carr won their sweepstake with a codling of 4lb 1oz taken from South Shields pier, Jim Dobie took the top three places in their match at Panns bank with fish of 1lb 7oz, 1lb 70lb, & 1lb 5oz. Newbiggin started the winter with three matches, Gordon Scott winning the first from Druridge with eight flounder for 4lb 5oz. Liam Smith took the West Cumberland junior trophy with a flounder of 5oz.

Gary Tully won their second match from amble with two codling for 6lb 10oz, best 4lb 13oz, Joe Lindsay winning their third match for the Steve Sports Trophy with eight flounder for 6lb 3oz from Druridge. Dave Rogers and Darren Wilkey had a productive day at St Abbs taking pollack, wrasse, coalfish, & mackerel, most falling to redgills.
