Gino Peruzzi is set to finally seal his move to Sunderland this week, after his switch was delayed for further medical tests.

The Argentinian right-back was due to complete his £3.3m move last week after agreeing terms with the Black Cats, but his current club Velez Sarsfield confirmed that the deal was put on hold after a routine medical highlighted an old ligament injury.

The 21-year-old travelled to Rome to see a specialist for more checks, and has now been given the OK to join Sunderland.

With the Black Cats currently in Hong Kong to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy, Peruzzi has returned to Argentina but is expected to fly to England later this week to finalise his move – and end a transfer saga that has been running for almost a month.
