NEWCASTLE had to settle for a point from their first home game of the 2010/11 FA Premier Academy campaign.

United fought back after going two goals down within half an hour, defender Jeff Henderson reducing the deficit and then Michael Richardson striking the equaliser nine minutes from time.

The Dons took the lead against the run of play on 16 minutes when a Rowan Plowright cross was met perfectly by Igor Coronado, whose close range header gave keeper Jak Alnwick no chance.

Dan Taylor then had a shot blocked by Dons goalkeeper Daniel Glass’s legs before the visitors increased their lead.

Fuad Ahmed fed Charlie Collins, who shot across Alnwick and into the bottom corner from just inside the penalty area.

Newcastle were soon back in it when Patrick Nzuzi found Henderson in a crowded box and he headed home from six yards.

Ameobi then put Nzuzi in, but the striker shot over the angle of bar and post from a tight angle and then Alex Nicholson prodded an Ameobi pass just wide.

United were back on level terms after 81 minutes when Nicholson’s right-wing low cross was met by Richardson, who tucked a first-time shot into the far corner.

Marcus Maddison was then denied by the outcoming Glass, while Aaron Kings 22 yard shot was held by Alnwick as both sides went in search of a late winner in an entertaining game.

NEWCASTLE UNITED UNDER-18S: Alnwick, Nicholson, Nzuzi Page (Sayer 45), Henderson, Smith, McGorrigan (Maddison 69), Richardson, Dan Taylor, Dennis Taylor (Riley 69), Ameobi. Subs: (not used) Robinson, Storey
