NEWCASTLE United Under-18s impressive run continued when goals from Dan Taylor, Marcus Maddison and Andy Mogwo earned a 3-1 win over visitors Wolves.

United hit the Midlanders with a lightning strike in the opening minute from Taylor, now edging towards double figures for the season.

Wolves were then left reeling, and chasing the game, three minutes later, Taylor this time the provider rather than the finisher.

The striker dispossessed Michael Ikiewhe to pick out Aaron Spear, whose shot from the edge of the box was parried by Wolves goalkeeper Aljaz Cotman.

Maddison, however, was in the right place at the right time to polish off the rebound and give United the perfect start to the game.

Wolves should have reduced the deficit when Jamie Smith brought down Sam Griffiths in the penalty area, only for Anthony Forde’s penalty to clip the top of the bar.

The Magpies then wrapped the game up with an early strike from Mogwo in the second half, Maddison the creator from a corner.

Wolves were out of the game, but goalkeeper Jak Alnwick had to make a double save midway through the second half from Roly Gorman and Ikiewhe to keep his goal intact.

Ryan McCorrigan and Mogwo both went close to making it four before Wolves grabbed a late consolation with nine minutes left.

NEWCASTLE UTD U18S: Alnwick, Nicholson, Hoganson, Sayer, Storey, Smith, McGorrigan, Mogwo, Taylor (Knight 70), Spear, Maddison. Subs (not used): Robinson (gk), Miele, Ions, Turton.
