PHIL Airey handed Newcastle United reserves a last-gasp win in the FA Premier Reserve League against Arsenal.

Shefki Kuqi won a penalty after being shoved by Daniel Boateng, but fired his kick straight down the middle at the keeper on 20 minutes.

But four minutes later Greg McDermott stabbed home right footed into the bottom corner from just inside the box. It was all square on 54 minutes when Josh Rees headed home from a left-wing cross for Arsenal.

United were indebted to Tim Krul on 71 minutes when he clawed over Rhys Murphy's effort from close-range.

Michael Riley's cross at the death found Airey, whose diving header crashed into the back of the net.

UNITED: Krul, Nzuzi, Riley, McDermott (Inman 46), Streete, Leadbitter, Newton, Guthrie (DTaylor 73), Kuqi (McGorrigan 73), Airey, Richardson. Subs (not used): Soderberg, Sayer. Attendance: 2,462
