NEWCASTLE United Under-18s were denied all three points when they conceded a last-minute equaliser at Huddersfield Town in the FA Premier Academy League.
The Terriers drew first blood when a half-cleared corner was returned into the box and Jak Alnwick was beaten by a header at the back-post.
Undeterred, United levelled on the half hour when Marcus Maddison was upended after he had cut into the box.
Aaron Spear sent the Town keeper the wrong way from the spot and then Sammy Ameobi had a header chalked off for offside.
With an hour on the clock the Magpies took the lead. Spear broke down the left to deliver a cross that Maddison knocked home from close range and Joe Joyce’s side looked on course for another victory.
Ameobi was out of luck again when he broke from half-way, only to be denied by the home keeper.
United’s winning run, however, was ended late on when they again failed to clear their lines and a hopeful punt back into the box evaded everyone, including Alnwick.
“I was delighted with the attitude of the players today,” said coach Joe Joyce, “but I was disappointed conceding in the final minutes. It’s never a good feeling but I am still happy with the performance.”
