NEWCASTLE United’s impressive FA Premier Academy League unbeaten run continued in the Midlands.

NEWCASTLE United’s impressive FA Premier Academy League unbeaten run continued in the Midlands.

United conceded an early goal but Sammi Ameobi levelled and Ryan McGorrigan put them ahead before Aaron Spear scored after the break. The Rams reduced the arrears late on.

Derby started positively and were ahead on ten minutes when the United defence failed to deal with a cross into the box. The Magpies were soon back on level terms, Ameobi heading a Marcus Maddison centre into the far corner.

Newcastle were ahead for the first time early in the second half, through McGorrigan. Spear then earned and dispatched the penalty that gave Joe Joyce’s side breathing space.

Remi Streete kept the Rams interested when he gave away a late spot kick which was converted.

NEWCASTLE UNITED Under-18s: Alnwick, Nicholson, Riley, Storey, Streete, Spear (Taylor 70), Nzuzi, Sayer, Maddison, McCorrigan, Ameobi. Subs (not used): Robinson (gk), Toland, Mogwo, Knight.
