Gateshead eased past Blyth Spartans with two second-half goals in last night’s friendly at Croft Park.
Fomer Spartans player James Marwood was off target with a 25-yard effort and Blyth goalkeeper Conor Grant parried an Arjun Purewal goalbound effort before Gateshead broke the deadlock early in the second period.
Marcus Maddison slipped the ball past James Howarth, who had taken over in goal from Grant at half-time.
Howarth made a superb save but was powerless to prevent Marwood from doubling Gateshead’s lead on 54 minutes. His well-struck shot found the far corner of the net. Spartans almost pulled a goal back but Nathan Buddle’s header clipped the crossbar.
