A 3-1 victory over Carlisle City at Bullocksteads made Heddon clear leaders in the Premier Division and extended an unbeaten run to eight games.
Goals by Lawal Zubairu and Ian McElroy gave Ian Thompson’s side an interval lead. It was cut by Dale Wilson’s reply for City but John Pearson restored Heddon’s advantage.
Previous leaders Walker Central were unseated by a 1-1 draw at home to last season’s champions Harraby Catholic Club. Central went behind to David Wallace’s 17th-minute goal for their visitors but had Ian Dunn equalising.
With Gillford Park in the County Cup, Alnwick Town moved into third. Alnwick won 5-0 at home to Northbank. James Swordy and James Jeffery netted in the first half then in five second half minutes Bryan Murray, Gary Patterson and Alistair Turvey scored.
Blyth Town had to entertain Seaton Delaval at Cramlington and won 1-0 thanks to Jonathan Mann’s goal.
Shankhouse are third bottom in the Premier Division and drew 0-0 with visitors Heaton Stannington.
Ponteland United were beaten 3-2 at home by bottom side Newcastle University. First-half goals for Paul Ford and Kevin McGorie should have put Pont in charge. But Joe Foote got the Students off the mark and they won with goals by Sam Newton and Dave Kenn. Peterlee Town progressed in the Northern Alliance Charity Cup by winning 3-1 at home to Cramlington Town.
In the Cumberland Senior Cup Gillford Park were beaten 1-0 by second round visitors Aspatria.
