THE basement battle is heating up. Hebburn Reyrolle moved out of the relegation places with an impressive victory while Gateshead Rutherford picked up a point themselves in dramatic fashion with a late equaliser.
Reyrolle’s Dean Stewart slid in from a narrow angle and Steven Wood glanced in a header in an end-to-end encounter with Seaton Delaval, who pulled one back in the last minute as new signing, journeyman striker Alex Benjamin, powerfully headed home from a corner.
Rutherford trailed to a goal from Walker Central’s Robert Hamilton when they hit back almost straight after the break through debutant Tom White.
Philip Davison put Central back in front with ten minutes to go but Peter Williams bent a free-kick over the wall and in to level in the 88th minute.
Wallsend Town were kicking themselves for missing opportunities in an entertaining derby with Percy Main.
The Villagers took their chances with Chris Bell (2), Ray Oshin and Alex Bergham on target, Lee Garwood (2) and Paul McHutcheon replying.
Shankhouse produced a sparkling performance to go into the semi-finals of the Kicks Leisure Challenge Cup with goals from Jake Turnbull, Paul Dunn, Dean Deagle and Phillip Cartwright as they beat Harraby United, whose sole reply came from Alan Casey.
Killingworth Sporting’s set-pieces caused panic in the Heaton Stannington defence as they netted three times in a blistering opening.
Liam Callaghan, John Amos and Michael Bowman did the damage with Paul Chapman pulling one back in between. Although Ben Telford added a second ten minutes after the break, Heaton couldn’t force the issue.
Stocksfield were left cursing their luck as a last minute own goal handed Amble United victory.
Chris Hall (2) and Karl Campbell netted for the Griffins with Sean Taylor (2) and Ross Gair the United marksmen.
