Heaton Stannington won the top-five clash against West Allotment Celtic and remain in a strong challenging position for one of the three promotion places in the Ebac Northern League Second Division.

The only goal came on the hour when Jonathan Wright struck a left-foot shot into the top of the net past goalkeeper Ryan Beal.

North Shields extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points when they saw off Thornaby with second-half goals from top scorer Gareth Bainbridge, who bagged a brace.

At the bottom, Esh Winning produced a good performance to defeat Birtley Town courtesy of David Fort and Ryan Burton (2), with Cameron Nichol scoring an added-time consolation for the visitors.

There’s no change at the top of the Wearside League.

Leaders Stockton Town defeated Boldon CA with strikes from Alan Cossavella, Stephen Roberts, Luke Whittaker and an Anthony Renwick own goal.

Second-top Ryhope CW became the first side to pass the 100 goals mark when they hit Wolviston for six.

Chris Winn rifled four goals and George McCain bagged a brace.

The visitors’ only reply was credited to Carl Lilley.
