More TV cash for Cup stars Spartans

BLYTH Spartans’ FA Cup second round replay against Bournemouth has been moved back a week but their patience will be rewarded with £190,000 if they can finally see off the League Two strugglers.

The tie against the Cherries has been moved so it can be screened live by Setanta Sports. And the satellite TV broadcaster also announced it will follow the winner’s progress into the third round, when they entertain Premier League Blackburn Rovers.

The Croft Park replay against Bournemouth will now take place on Tuesday, December 16, at 7.45pm. Setanta also screened the original meeting between the two sides – Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Dean Court.

The winners of the tie are due to host Paul Ince’s Blackburn, although Blyth secretary Ian Evans has already indicated that if his side beat the Cherries they will consider moving the game away from their 4,000-capacity home. But wherever it is played and whoever is playing in it, the game will be an 8pm kick-off on Monday, January 5. In recent season the Football Association has tried to reinvigorate interest in its blue ribbon event and the result is some generous cash prizes if Harry Dunn’s Conference North outfit can continue its progress in the competition.

Blyth will receive £40,000 for appearing live on television this month and a further £30,000 if they win the tie. Each club shown live in round three receives another £160,000, with £75,000 prize money for reaching round four.
