Martin O'Neill parts company with Sunderland

SUNDERLAND AFC manager Martin O’Neill has been sacked following the club’s 1-0 defeat against Manchester United today.

SUNDERLAND AFC manager Martin O’Neill has been sacked following the club’s 1-0 defeat against Manchester United today.

A statement released by the club at 9.30pm said: “Sunderland AFC has announced that it has parted company with manager Martin O’Neill this evening.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Martin and wishes him well for the future.

“An announcement will be made in the coming days regarding a successor.”

Fans took have already taken to Twitter to vent their views on the manager’s departure.

Hollie-Anne Brooks tweeted: “Does not surprise me at all, fans have seen it coming for weeks.”

Mark Bradley wrote: “Wow Martin O`Neill sacked by Sunderland AFC... still one of the best managers in this country.”

Jimmy Malin wrote: “Nightmare won't get anyone anywhere near as good as O'Neill.”

The 61-year-old manager from Northern Ireland joined the club in 2011 after managing Aston Villa and Celtic.
