Jamie Chandler is hoping that Gateshead can climb into the Skrill Premier top five tonight by beating Aldershot at the International Stadium.

The Tynesiders midfielder helped Gary Mills’ side to a hard-fought 2-1 win against Nuneaton Town on Saturday to march on to sixth place.

Now with Gateshead level with Grimsby, Chandler (right) knows they can enter the play-off zone.

Chandler said: “We are confident playing on home soil.

“Hopefully we can get another three points and really push on from there.

“The top five is where we want to be. The manager has reiterated that in his interviews and in the dressing room.

“And with the squad we have here I believe we are more than capable of achiveing that.”

It’s a big week for Gateshead with the Aldershot game tonight quickly followed by a trip to play-off rivals Grimsby Town in Cleethorpes on Saturday, with Welling back on Tyneside in seven days time.

By the end of all that, the Tynesiders could be sitting proudly in the play-off slots.

Chandler added: “We have a good run of home games this month and it is an opportunity for us to kick on.

“But none of them will be easy. No game in this league is a given.”
