STEVE BRUCE has confirmed that Fraizer Campbell will be sidelined for “at least six months” by the cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained against Manchester City.
But the Sunderland manager has backed the 22-year-old to make a full recovery.
“He (Campbell) has ruptured his cruciate knee ligaments so he’s going to be out for at least six months,” Bruce said.
“It’s a tragedy. But Fraizer will be back. He’s a larger-than-life character. He was just starting to show what he was about. But make no mistake he’ll be back and he’ll be firing again.”
Meanwhile, Sunderland also parted company with midfielder Teemu Tainio after the Finnish international had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.
“We wish Teemu all the best,” Bruce told the club’s official website.
