LEE Collings has expressed his delight at signing former Sunderland star David Dowson.
The 22-year-old striker – who has also played on loan at Darlington and Chesterfield – was released by York City earlier this week.
And he has joined injury-ravaged Durham – who entertain Leigh Genesis today in a “must-win” game between the 21st and 22nd teams in the table – along with Gary Shaw.
“We were absolutely spineless during the first half on Tuesday, we had nothing about us,” said Collings.
“By half-time we had three players injured, I’d used all my substitutes and we already have a load of players out.
“Amar Purewal and Elliott Cutts went on up front and Craig Harboard into midfield, and they were the three best players on the pitch.
“They changed the game, we ended up battering them and should have won.
“Now we’re out of the cup and back to the league, and it’s a must-win game. It’s as simple as that, we have to win if we’re going to get up the table, up to where we should be.
“We’ve got a load out injured but we’ve just signed David Dowson from York City and Gary Shaw, who’s been playing in Wallsend.
“It’s massive for us, we’re delighted to have got them in. I’m overjoyed about David because a lot of clubs have been after him.
“We’ve also got international clearance now for Sebastien Forge, so we’re getting numbers back but we’ve still so many out.”
