BLYTH will play Shrewsbury Town at home in the first round of the FA Cup after beating Sheffield at Croft Park.

Harry Dunn’s men trailed to Scott Partridge’s 10th-minute goal after Paul Smith’s long ball was misjudged by Andrew Leeson, allowing Partridge to run on and chip the ball over Paul Farnham.

The introduction of ex-Darlington forward Sean Reay had a telling effect as the home side wrapped up the tie with three second-half goals in an 18-minute spell. Just before the hour, Reay controlled the ball in the penalty area for defender Gary Brown to fire home the equaliser. Blyth turned the screw and Sheffield had to withstand pressure with keeper Leigh Walker making three saves, twice from Richard Pell and then Simon Todd.

However, in the 65th minute, Williams found Robbie Dale on the right who played in the on-running Reay, and he slotted the ball past Walker to put Spartans in front.

Ten minutes later Paul Watson found Dale out left. He beat two defenders and fired home.

BLYTH SPARTANS: Farman, Leeson, Boyle, Williams, Pell, Brown, Dalton, Todd, Dale, Watson, Gildea. Subs (not used): Wright, Reay, Poole, Gladwin, Fenton, Mark Bell.

Goals: Brown 58, Reay 65, Dale 76.

Attendance: 680
