BERWICK Rangers remain three points adrift of the play-off places locked on the fringe with Peterhead following the draw at Shielfield Park after failing again to break the December hoodoo.

The Borderers have not won a home match in the final month of the year since 2008.

They have one last chance to end the run when they entertain Queens Park in a re-arranged Boxing Day match three days before Christmas.

Boss Ian Little said: “We have set the players a challenge to break this sequence but we failed against Peterhead.

“We were far from impressive in the first half.

“After the break, once we scored the equaliser, we started to play a lot better and might just have gone on to win.”

Little added “The squad has been stretched recently as a result of injuries and suspensions.

“Although I am not using that as any excuse, it has meant I have been able to give some of the younger players a place on the bench and there is no doubt they are the future of a club like this.”

The Blue Toon were in command for most of the first half and Scott McLaughlin put them ahead in 25 minutes, guiding home from close range.

The hosts levelled in 58 minutes courtesy of a mistake by Graeme Smith.

The Peterhead goalkeeper allowed a Dean Hoskins corner to slip from his grasp, presenting top scorer Darren Lavery with a gift-wrapped equaliser.
