Ashington reached the semi-finals of the Techflow Northumberland FA Senior Cup with a 3-1 win over Newcastle Benfield at Woodhorn Lane last night.

The Colliers went ahead on 35 minutes when Sam Norris delivered a good cross from the right and Marc Walton drove into the net.

Benfield hit back to level after an hour. Paul Brayson latched onto a through ball and beat the advancing Karl Dryden.

With 12 minutes remaining, Walton’s free-kick was blocked by Stephen Tobin but the rebound found Darren Lough who sidefooted into the roof of the net.

Just before the end, Ashington just about made certain of going through as Glen Taylor struck a tremendous shot into the top corner.

Hebburn Town are still without a win in the Ebac Northern League First Division after going down to Morpeth Town, who eased their position near the bottom of the table.

Shaun Taylor, with a brace, Andrew Keenan and Marc Lancaster had the Northumbrians four goals ahead before Shaun Henderson claimed a consolation goal for Hebburn.

West Auckland Town maintained their unbeaten record, defeating Billingham Synthonia with goals by Daryl Hall and John Campbell. Synners’ only goal came from a Chris Hughes penalty in added time.

On Saturday, Whickham reached the last 32 of the FA Carlsberg Vase but they went down 2-1 at Chester-le-Street in a Second Division game.

Washington went through in the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup with a 2-1 win against Tow Law Town.
