North East builder Stone Homes has seen off competition from businesses across the country to win an industry Oscar.

Alnwick-based Stone Homes, Northumberland, beat some of the biggest names in house building to be named the UK’s Best Small Builder 2014 at the prestigious WhatHouse Awards 2014 ceremony in London.

The company, which was founded in 2001 by husband and wife team Dale and Jo Robinson, has designed and built superior modern country houses across Northumberland, with current developments at Highmoor, Hepscott and Rennington.

Every home it builds is created to a bespoke design using only the finest interior and exterior materials and the company employs a team of master craftsmen, including carpenters, stonemasons, roofer and tilers.

In presenting Stone Homes with the Gold award in its category, the WhatHouse Awards 2014 judging panel said: “Wherever it builds, statements are made. Stone Homes by name and nature, built with character, charm and an extraordinary attention to detail.

“This is a house builder in love with its job and it shows. It is a worthy winner.”

Collecting the award from ceremony host, comedian Rob Brydon, at a glittering ceremony in London attended by around 1600 of the industry’s biggest names, Dale said: “We are exceptionally pleased and proud to have received this accolade.

“It is testament to the creativity, skill and expertise of our entire team – from our joiners and stonemasons to our architect and bank manager – and we are delighted to accept it on their behalf.”

Stone Homes insists on working with the best materials sourced from the local countryside and wherever it builds, statements are made. Such is his passion for authenticity that Dale is regularly on the road, acquiring and salvaging architectural materials to blend the new with the old and its surroundings.

Stone Homes interiors was launched and is run by Dales’s Wife Jo Robinson, a textiles graduate. Jo styles and creates delightful homes, forever challenging and seeking new inspirations.

Stone Homes currently have developments at Highmoor and Hepscott in Northumberland.

The small development of North Highmoor Farm is the idyllic location for family living in the heart of Northumberland countryside. A range of traditional 19th Century Northumberland stone farm steadings in a secluded settlement, yet only a few short miles from Longhorsley, approached via a private country drive, with no through access, this top of the market development offers four truly beautiful, bespoke, Northumbrian stone homes.

The properties offer a magnificent outlook to the north, west and east as the landscape sweeps gently down to the Coquet Valley across rolling green fields and ancient woodland. Tucked away, but very accessible, and set in gentle farmland, criss-crossed with footpaths, this quiet place with stunning views is very private, and yet not isolated. These special homes abound in outstanding hand-crafted architectural features, fine stone arches hand cut by our stone team, natural stone quoins, heads and cills, fine exposed antique brickwork and stonework, feature fireplaces, antique pitch pine beams and trusses…all bringing immense character and charm to each of these individual properties.
