5 things you didn't know about prepaid currency cards

Did you know your money could actually be easier to manage abroad on a prepaid currency card?

Protect your money abroad: here's are 5 top tips

Have you ever used a prepaid currency card? You'll be surprised at how much safer it is to use - let alone how easy it is to top up.

See our top 5 facts below to find out more.

1. You do not lose your money when you lose your card

If your currency card is lost/stolen and reported immediately, your card balance will remain in your account. Simply apply for a replacement card and your balance will be transferred or request a refund to your original bank account.

2. You can use it all over the world

The FAIRFX prepaid currency card is backed by MasterCard, so can be used anywhere you see the MasterCard acceptance mark in over 210 countries worldwide. Other currency card providers are backed by Visa. Use your card in shops, restaurants and ATM’s all over the world.

3. Do not throw your card away when you get home

Your currency card is like a normal payment card that you use continuously. It is not a disposable card so don’t throw it away, keep loading it when the rate is good and use it again and again.

If you have any money left over after your holiday, FAIRFX customers can now also spend their remaining balance in shops in the UK at no extra cost!

4. You don’t lose your money when your card expires

When your card expires, simply apply for a renewal and your card balance will be transferred. The same as you would with a normal bank card. Make sure you keep an eye on the expiry date though, so that you are not caught out on holiday with an expired card.

5. A currency card application does not include a credit check

There is no credit check involved in applying for a prepaid currency card so your financial history or credit score doesn’t determine whether you can have a card or not. Not to be confused with prepaid debit cards.

"It’s the sensible way to carry and manage your holiday funds"

Trevor used his card on holiday driving over 2000 miles across the Eastern seaboard

Trevor Gardiner has been using his currency card for over 3 years and wouldn’t go abroad without it.

“I did some research online and found that FAIRFX is recommended as the best buy option.

"We picked it for security, the ability to top-up online wherever you are in the world, great exchange rates and almost universal coverage of MasterCard.

“We used our card on holiday driving over 2000 miles across the Eastern seaboard and had no issues at all using the card.

"Our trip to the US West Coast and this 3500 mile trip through California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada again showed no problems at all. Petrol, cash, hotel or a meal, it’s just the sensible way to carry and manage your holiday funds.

"Apart from some "walking around" cash which you can get from ATM’s with your card, you don't need anything else.”
