Newcastle is proud to be home to a vibrant student population whose contribution to life in the North East is enormously valued.
They bring real vigour to the city and, coming as they do from not only all parts of Britain, but the world, they inject incredible vibrancy into the region.
For many years now, our student population has been ghettoised in various corners of the city, often to the chagrin of some locals.
More recently, our universities have embarked on ambitious building programmes to accommodate the ever-increasing student population.
A number of city centre sites have been used without issue – but now they wish to redevelop a building on Grey Street.
Conservationists have expressed their concerns, which are understandable, after all, this is one of Britain’s finest streets.
