It was glamour at the gee-gees this weekend as thousands donned their finery for this year’s hotly- anticipated Ladies’ Day at Newcastle Racecourse.
With the sun blazing, the Gosforth Park course provided the perfect backdrop for the 20,000-plus crowds out to enjoy the 10th Beeswing Ladies’ Day.
The most glamorous race day of the course’s flat race season has become one of the region’s premier social events.
And racegoers didn’t disappoint with a sea of impressive frocks and fascinators – complemented by plenty of bubbles and a flutter.
Among the many enjoying the meet was mum-of-two Caroline Pierce, 37, from Heaton, Newcastle, out celebrating with friends.
The accounts manager said: “I go to the races because I love meeting up with friends, getting dressed up, drinking lots of Pimms, having a good laugh and, if we are lucky, winning some cash in the process.
“Ladies’ Day has been a tradition for the girls for at least the last 10 years and luckily for me it always falls on or around my birthday on July 29, so there’s a double excuse to go out and have a great day.”
